Default To do a follow up treatment on my lawn or not?

I sort of have a gardener - when I say "sort of" its because he is more like a paid gardening companion - Yes I have to pay people to be my friends! He has in fact really helped us turn the garden around - one day I will get around to posting photos of how bad it was - even I was shocked when I looked at them last week - you tend to forget.

Anyways, Joe and hubby spent two hours applying weed and feed to back and front lawns. I now have to scarify etc but I did notice the pack suggested to re-apply in 6 weeks. Joe disagrees and thinks that most people fail their lawn by not doing it in the Autumn. Does anyone have any views on this please.
