Default Going to get cold again...

Forecasters Warning

-- Wintry Conditions --

Areas Affected: The UK

This is the first in a likely series of Weather Watches and Warnings covering the threat of wintry conditions to many parts of the country.

There has been growing confidence that after a period of very spring-like weather over the last week, wintry conditions will return in full force over the coming weekend. The abrupt change is set to take place during the course of Saturday night and into Sunday, initially across more Northern parts of the country but eventually nationwide by the end of Sunday.

Specific details still remain uncertain at this stage but there is cause for concern over the threat of snow, potential blizzards across Scotland for a limited time and harsh frosts returning nationwide by night. There is the potential for some transport disruption in places. Frequent and often heavy sleet and snow showers are expected across a large portion of the country between Sunday 18th and Tuesday 20th of March. At the present time Scotland, Eastern England, Northern Ireland and Wales are at greatest risk.

Further updates will follow over the coming days...

Thanks for that Lucym. My OH said all the stuff I'd put outside was going to get frozen, and I thought he was joking. Evidently not...

Oh dear! We are away in Essex again this weekend and I won't be able to light my little heater in the greenouse. My poor seedlings will probably freeze!

Strewth! Sounds like a recipe for disaster! Personally I'd carry the trays in one by one.....

Mind you, I am speaking as a cack-handed begger who still managed to drop a bowl full of cats breakfast on the carpet this morning even tho' I was just carrying one dish in each hand.

Thankfully we've nothing frost sensitive in the plot that we cant afford to loose at the moment, the onions and garlic should be ok, and what else that is in is in such small quantities that it wont be a disaster if it doesnt survive, but with any luck things may just live through the next few days! I can live in hope cant I?

Thanks lucy, although did hear on the radio today that we may have a frost here in Preston tonight. Brought inside the greenhouse the caulis and cabbage (in pots) that I put outside last night, and nipped to the lottie enroute home and put a covering over my new neighbours seedling onions and herbs just in case she didnt visit on her way home. After the one, single, bad frost we had in november which killed off my christmas tatties am now well aware that to take cover in case of frost is the best policy! DDL
