Default First Frost

Woke this morning to a still sunny calm morning and everywhere white with frost! Very pretty, but unexpected! Even had the scrape the ice off the windscreen.

No lead in, no sort of cold weather to get you acclimatised - just BAMM straight into a hard frost.

Are we first?

Default First Frost

I think I heard this lunchtime on local TV that there is a chance of frost down here in the next few days

Been raining most of the day here so pretty good cloud cover - don't think we'll have a frost but may go out with the fleece anyway.

Had a quick check around the garden tonight before it got dark, and I think I've only lost the last of the nasturtiums and stocks. Parsnip leaves seem to have gone over though - they are not really ready for digging up so hopefully they will perk up again. Brussel sprouts and calabrese look ok as do carrots still in the ground.

No chance of a frost tomorrow though - Severe Gale 9 from the East! Spiffing and I'm off to Edinburgh, so hope the flight leaves ok. I don't think I want to go by boat tomorrow night!

No frost here yet. A dreadful day though. Awoke to lashing rain this morning and it never stoppoed since. Quite windy at times with a dull dull sky. Temp still in double figures here though.
Hope all your plants are ok Jennie.

No frost here. It's definitely cooler in the evening but it is also extremely wet. Roxie rabbit was very soggy when I let her out of her run and she went straight to her hutch and I got very wet sorting our food for her and the guinea pigs (new additions to the family called Gilly and Stockings). So probably no frost for a few days yet. Would like it to dry up a little so I can do my autumn planting though.

No frost here in Suffolk yet. Very very wet over the last week, also windy. Minimum temp so far 6 deg. Days still very warm for late October, grass growing like mad still, and too wet to cut. Thank goodness for the guinea pigs who live in a run on the lawn which is moveable. Looks patchy, but I daren't use the mower its so wet it will just pull the roots up.

Weather is definitely getting cooler. Forecast minimum for last night was 4 degrees. No frost on the grass this morning but it was forecast for "more rural areas". So I'll possibly have a few more days living in the city.
