Default Bad storm Stay safe

Hi All,

This is sounding like a really bad storm. I know Jennie, BirdieWife and Rat were getting hit with it today but on the news I have just heard about the sea surge.

Please everyone down south and in Holland take care and check in at some point and let us know you are ok please.

Take care all, Mandy

I'm in Lowestoft, Suffolk (fortunately on higher ground, not down near the harbour) and we have severe flood warnings out for early tomorrow morning. Should be OK here I hope, but will let you know. At least the torrential rain has stopped and the winds have eased a bit - I got absolutely soaked walking from work this afternoon.

Well its still wild up here, though the strongest winds were at midday - 90 mph recorded in Lerwick. Here in Tingwall we are much more exposed and the wind just thunders up the valley and is generally stronger. As it was dark when I got in I've no idea (other than the gas cannisters) whether there is any major damage. Had quite a bit of snow in the showers tonight and its absolutely bitterly cold - 2 degrees - what the wind chill is with 50/60 mph winds I have no idea!

We also had an amazing high tide today.

Hope all goes well on the East Coast tonight. Will be thinking of you all. Particularly as I know the area well (I'm from Colchester originally and all my holidays to the age of 20 were in Southwold).

Looked pretty breezy on the news this morning, but they seemed more concerned with the tidal surge they were expecting.

All OK I hope.

Woke to a dusting of snow this morning. Bitterly cold wind still blowing quite strongly but it has calmed down a bit now. Had some quite heavy snow showers during the day but its not settled. Heard that Orkney had had worse winds than Shetland yesterday - how are you Diana in Eday?

I've been watching the news about the floods, hope all is ok. We had another very high tide today as well.

We don't quite see polar bears here!

Thought you might like this picture - it was in today's local paper and taken before the storm was at its height. Taken in Lerwick - my office is just along from here!

A good day, all in all. Yesterday I got soaked biking home, torrential rain but none today.
No serious flooding, but lots of good photos on the news. Its very exciting to see our bit of the world on the tellybox, but a bit frustrating when they only show ten seconds of clips, despite filming nearly all day (I was on one clip on BBC1, in a red jacket leaning on a lampost, did anyone see me?).
OH got evacuated at 5am (he's 100 yards from the sea) but it was a false alarm, the sea didn't even reach the prom. I stayed at mother's and we went to look at the high tide at 8am. It was bitterly cold, about 3 degrees I think. I had to go into town and console myself with a Belgian Bun (only eaten in emergency situations)

Default Morning after the storm surge

Well, we got away pretty lightly considering the warnings. Walked into work along the seafront yesterday around 8. 30 am (predicted high of the surge and the tide). Yes, the tide was very high and there were some spectacular waves near the south pier, crashing against the sea wall. Also the sea was right up to the wall at the Pakefield end (something I haven't seen since my children were small as the beach has built up there over the years). Walked down this morning and most of the beach is still there, but the path down from the lifeguard station to the beach isn't. Will try to post some piccies from yesterday, but didn't take the camera this morning - DOHHHH!!!
