  • Zen and the Art of Tomato Maintenance

Mr Sweepster, having embarked on part 2 of his Reiki healing training course, has been instructed to conduct an experiment on two seedlings, to see if he can harness the power of the *whatever* (am frankly a bit vague on the details) to make one grow more successfully than the other. Can't find a pair of runner beans or courgettes that are the same size, so have settled on tomatoes (Gardener's Delight).

He drew the symbol for 'may the Force be with you'... no, hang on, that's wrong... it's 'I demand the power of the Universe'... on a sticker which he placed on the chosen tomato's pot... then sent me away so he could realign its chakras etc without a sniggering audience... Now I just have to compare its progress with the 'control' tomato, and see if it does noticably better. I'll post photos of the two plants on a blog entry for any interested parties/psychiatric professionals...

If the Chosen One manages to get through the season without turning into a blight-riddled pile of mush, I will of course be retracting all former scepticism and sending Mr S on a nationwide tour

...or swap pots if his sticker one is by chance winning!.... otherwise you may never hear the end of it.

Stickers don't make plants grow better...with or without an Ohm.

Ah you may mock! But there are things in the universe we cannot account for! Should your OH wish to send me distance reiki to calm me I would be a willing volunteer.

          Fix the feeding

If it does work send him here, as long as he knows the difference between a weed and a plant. That's easy in my garden btw, the weeds are the ones that do well, everything else is a plant.

But there are also Things Which Man Was Not Meant to Know...

I shall watch with interest. But agree about changing pots if 'his' is winning.

Day 1: Sticker with the 'by the power of Greyskull' (or whatever) symbol on it falls off the pot of the Chosen One ...Stuck it back on, but later found that I'd put it upside-down

Can't find any batteries to put in my camera yet... but frankly... you're not missing much

There are some things that should stay firmly within the marriage

All my plants get reiki and my allotment usually features in any distant healing sessions.
I also energise the water I give to my plants with reiki.
Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

I'm very tempted to take the mickey, however presumably your OH is 6 foot 7 and 18 stone as well?

So in all seriousness, have you done side by side comparison tests?
