  • In you're opinion......

What would you call a hoop house 1m high by 2.4 long wrapped in plastic?

Sounds like a cloche but I may have misunderstood. What do you call it?

I base this on the height, if it were walk in then it'd be a tunnel. The length isn't relevant.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks I've been told to take it down because it's classed as a pollytunnel apparently and we're not allowed greenhouses either, I built it to take some pepper plants that grow to a metre tall and that's what I thought it was a cloche!

What's in your rules about cloches?

What's their objection to it? Are cold frames banned too as its really no more intrusive than that.

Ask them how high your cloche can be.
Remake them to the prescribed height.
Then make 'collars' for the beds that they can sit on to be taller than they are.

There's no mention of cold frames there allowed, theirs half a dozen blowaways scattered about and some of some large cloches
The funny thing was when he's talking to me he goes I'm surprised noones objected lol I still had to take it down

Some people need to get a life at times! We had a similar situation where someone built a short fence one metre high where the rules say that fences can't be over three feet!

Luckily in this instance, sense prevailed and the fence stayed!

So what is the actual rule? permanent structure, height restriction or something entirely different?

I would have thought no greenhouses is on account of broken glass. We had that rule/ reason on my old allotment. If that is the only rule you can find relating to it I would ask why you need to take it down (politely)

A cloche. 1m high isn't obtrusive. My netting over PSB is taller than that. And my fruit cage will be 6ft high.

                            This is wiki's description:
A polytunnel (also known as a polyhouse, hoop greenhouse or hoophouse, or high tunnel) is a tunnel made of polyethylene, usually semi-circular, square or elongated in shape.

I would have thought a 1mt high structure was a cloche/cage but deffo not a hoophouse. Unless you're a small person of course.
