My dogs .... one especially thinks that I grow veg/salad for his self service salad bar ..... he has a knack for knowing that that lovely strawberry/raspberry/tomato youve been nurturing and waiting to pick is ready ... just about everything is grown enclosed in cages now or out of his reach. Slugs and snails are my other two worst pests.

Agree with the slugs. It's a shame that out of the 30 or so species of slugs in the UK, it's only a few species that cause us any grief. These are primarily the keeled slugs, the grey field and black garden slug which are fairly small in size. Those great big round-backed brown and black slugs which so many people love to squash or skewer on a sharp stick, actually help us by eating rotting vegetation.

For a moment there I thought I had missed a major news item on wild boar coming to Britain!
My worst pests are my OH, mice, pigeons...slugs, snails and my puppy dogs (tails). Although I now try and collect the slugs and snails for the hens. They fought over one slug the other day - it was a real blood fest!

I have quite a number of millipedes in the allotment soil too - any answers? I keep throwing them over the hedge into the graveyard

                            Lotsaveg,

So would it be a good idea to throw the big jobbies into my compost bin?
