  • Are your chilli plants flowering?

    Hello,

I am curious to know how your chilli plants are doing. My so-called earlies Cap annuum such as Ring of fire and Hot wax are just setting flowers. The capsicum chinense such as the habanero types are still, ahem, compact. Are yours flowering or indeed fruiting yet?

I am trying to grow a relatively mild habanero type with that gorgeous Scotch Bonnet flavour but without the bastard heat and had hoped they would develop a little earlier. They are all in a blow away on a sheltered terrace (dreaming sweet dreams of the tropics I suspect...)

I've cut down on chilies this year but aji lemon are my favourite plants and they are way off from flowering. Though I have a lovely over wintered orange hab that has a couple of fruit on.

Mine are a long way from flowering, I only planted them out on plot yesterday, but I was late last year and got loads.

An overwintered hab has been flowering for ages but has only just set fruit, the other habs not flowering yet. Other milder types eg cyclon, cayenne and some unknowns due to labelling screw up are fruiting.

I only grow cayenne and the over wintered one is flowering but still in a pot so the plant isn't very big and neither are the chilies. The new ones from seed this year are doing well and flowering. Sowed the seed in early Feb.

My jalapeños are a way off flowering, as are the scotch bonnets, but the Dorset nagas are heavy with flower and fruit!

lots of flowers on the cayennes, and fruit.

                      Habaneros have flowers only.

A very mild habanero is the apricot habanero

Thanks, must go out and give my plants a pep talk!

Chilli grower- does the apricot habanero have that gorgeous, deep flavour of the hab? What I'm trying to find is something like a St Lucian seasoning peppers. They have enough heat to keep you on your toes and the occasional one has a real bite to it but they also have all the rich fruity flavour of a scotch bonnet. I have been unable to find seeds to grow. I ate bags of them on a holiday a few years back, they elevate eggy bread to a thing of beauty! I am growing a variety called Vegetarian and rocotillo this year. This is only my second year of chilli growing so goodness knows how they will turn out- Chilli growing is addictive!

Hi there, here is a photo of my sweet peppers "carno do torro" from Aldi. It's a bit leggy? The flowers are just forming at the very top, so if i nip it out I'll lose first flowers. Not sure what to do!
