  • yin yang beans

I'm growing a number of new (to me) varieties of beans this year and was hoping someone who has grown them before could advise me on when to pick my yin yang beans and how big they get.
    Thanks in advance

They are best used as a dried bean in my opinion. So leave them on the plant till they start to dry.

      Thanks Flum,
How do you cook them when used as dried beans. Do you use them in chillies and the like?

I use them in chillies and in pork casseroles. Pork and beans. Hmmmm!

            Hi chuck.

When dried; just soak overnight and boil up like any dried bean then add to chillis/other dishes....

            Yum.

Try a few fresh as well, I tried some last year and they were fine.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

                Thanks all,
I'm trying a number of new beans thanks to zazen so will probably be asking similar questions about some of the other varieties as they get going
                I really appreciate the help.

I grew the yin yang last year and got an average 5 beans per pod (didn't treat them very well) but didn't cook them as I wanted to plant all the seed this year. I've got far too many to count on the allotment and a small patch at home for eating fresh - they are really nice at about 3" long.

I went out and took a picture but the computer seems to have eaten them and I can't find the file anywhere so you'll have to take my word that they seem more robust and bushy than the other types I'm growing especially the kinghorn wax. It seems a easy bean for those of us with little skill in that department!
