  • Yellow stickers and bees

Hi all, I have a yellow sticker hanging off the roof of my tiny polythene greenhouse to catch the flies as I get a lot of them but it also occasionally catches bees :-( I don't know what to do. I don't want to kill the bees, each one is so precious!

Can you hang it lower down, nearer the ground? The bees are probably flying up to the roof to find a way out, and landing on the strip because it's the easiest thing to land on. Bees will always fly upwards to find an exit, whereas the yellow sticky is designed to attract all the pests that are drawn to the colour.

    Endless wonder.

^^^^^^^^Agreed my sticky traps are only about 4ft above the ground and it is very rare to catch a bee.

Thank you so much, will stick them lower somewhere, feeling so guilty right now!

Last year I had the same problem, but never figured out how to fix it. Lowering the yellow stickies is a great tip.

Try to find the brown paper ones if you can find them (I think poundshops might do them) they might not attract the bees so much.

The trouble with Bees is that they also see into the UV spectrum so it's hard for us to tell if a bee will find something attractive or not.

My neighbour has a bee hive, but now he moved and took it with him so we have very few bees in the garden, killing them will not do me any favours! Will try find different colour fly traps, if that helps. Thank you!
