    year round broccoli?

    slowly but surely i am whittling down the veg i want to grow that is relatively easy with good results. (dont we all)

    of the brassicas, broccolli is the one for me

    i have got the early purple sprouting but that's early as in autumn/winter

    what varieties can be sown now for an earlier crop?

      it does seem really obvious. bit confused as kings seeds has annual and perennial brocolli listed

        They are different beasts... you want the annual Summer PSB. I grew some this year and wasn't impressed, but so did my mum and hers were great.

          I get confused with broccoli and calabrese, but there are early calabrese that you can sow now in modules for picking in June/July...according Bunny Guiness on GQT.

            Calabrese is the big green stuff, i.e. what's usually known as broccoli in the US. Over here, broccoli is primarily the sprouting variety. The Organic Catalogue lists romanesco under broccoli, even though it's technically cauliflower. There's also a US heirloom variety of sprouting broccoli called 'Calabrese':

            No wonder everyone is confused!

              I grew some of these last year Broccoli : Nine Star Perennial (Seeds) . they're still looking pretty scrawny, though the packet says they should be cropping April/May and will last 2 to 3 years.

                I grew Ironman broccoli last year and it was early cropping, around early June if I remember rightly. Started the normal PSB of to soon and it was sprouting in Sept Oct which has now left me short in the hungry gap this year. So am halding back on sowing Psb till well into March. Summer and autumn cabbages will give a good return over a relativly short period for brassicas. Good one is estoril which is a savoy type.
