  • Worth sowing green manure now?

    Hi

As a lot of veg won't be sown/planted till the weather warms up such as peas, beans and squashes, is there time to sow a green manure do you think?

A lot of soil will be bare till then so wanted to avoid weeds taking over and making more work for me!

I'm lucky to have plenty of space so I'll have other veg in other parts of the plot.

    Thanks in advance!

I think the only green manure that's likely to grow at the moment is mustard and that is a brassica. I wonder if it is worth it. I'm covering bare soil with either fleece or clear plastic so the soil warms up and any weeds that surface can easily be removed before I plant seedlings or sow seeds.

I am currently using (self sown) violas and limnanthes as green manures: they'll get composted as and when I need the space

I also have phacelia coming up everywhere (I sowed it Sept, but it's only just germinating)
