    Worried about eggs found in soil

    Hi

    Today i sowed some carrots [flyaway] under fleece and when mixing sand and leveling i found some tiny eggs which i crushed after.

    im worried theses might of been carrot fly eggs?

    i cant seem to find a picture of what the eggs look like so i can compare

    Any ideas

    Chances are they are slug eggs. You wouldn't be able to see carrot fly eggs and anyway they tend to lay them when there are carrots there!

      Leave them out somewhere as a snack for the birds, Ruud.

        Yes almost certainly slug eggs,as you disturbed the soil you probably brought them to the surface. Birds or frogs will eat them if you leave them visible,but now you've sqashed them it does not really matter

          I dont get any birds in my garden, i rarely see one at ground level.

            * Splutters - no birds, Ruud. Why not? If I can get flocks of birds in the shadow of Heathrow - surely you can muster the odd blackbird and robin!!!

              What did the eggs look like (colour, size etc). No birds? Why?

                Definately sounds like slugs. Squish, squish, squish.
                A good beginning is half the work.
                Praise the young and they will make progress.
