  • Wondered why no slugs

Since starting down at the lottie I've never found many slugs

Went down early today, as I want to watch the cricket later, I found THREE slow worms on my plot I guess they live under the shed or compost during the day

Just had to share, and no you cant have them they're mine all mine

How beautiful, and what a brilliant form of slug control.

Slugs not too bad on the lottie, I've got frogs down there. But in the back garden I've loads of slugs and snails.

We had 3 slow worms or grass snakes in the garden last year, and a frog. Have not seen any sign of them this year. Our slugs however have increased and are large !! methinks the slugs may have eaten the worms!

Oooh I see these all the time on Leith Hill. Do you think they'll mind being kidnapped?

I have a wild area at he end of my lottie ( I'm always being told to have a clear up by the committee ) but it is a haven for slow worms and there are loads down there. I also found a nice sized toad making it's way across the cabbage patch yesterday.

Point this out to your committee:

                Conservation status
Slow worms are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 from being killed, injured or sold and are less common than they used to be.

we have toads on our allotment so slugs are not too much of a problem. Our biggest issue is birds - since the sparrowhawk moved away/died we seem to have a huge fat pidgen problem.

                    Hi

On our site in Leicester, pigeons are a real problem. One plot holder has erected a pole with a plastic full size eagle owl sitting on the top - says its been brilliant and he hasn't been affected by birds at all! Perhaps thats the answer
