  • Wind damage to potatoes.

I have several bags of potatoes planted for Christmas, They went in on the 1st August and have made a lot of top growth. The trouble is the high winds the other day have blathered them, they look a right mess. A lot of partly broken stems etc. My question is what can I do about it, if I cut off the foilage will it check the growth of the potatoes? will it reshoot? will they be ok just left as they are? I intend to bring them into the GH when the other stuff in there has finished. They are in old compost bags and i dont see how i could stake them.

Try & get them indoors if you can Bill, failing that can you cover them with anything like a makeshift cloche. I have also known broken branches to heal if splinted. May be worth a try.

gotta go with the grilla up above gotta get them protected they wont survive very well outside and the top will continue to suffer damage if left to be battered.
this will be a battle from the heart

Another option is to fleece the foliage & stand something round the bags to act as a windbreak.
