I am very new to all types of gardening especially veggie growing but I am also very very eager. I want to get some crops in the ground for over wintering. I found this organic vegetable plant sellar on the internet that sells mini sets of plug plants, each month they have a different set which seems great for the novice like me. There next mini set is their September set it cosists of, 9 star broccoli, Duncan cabbage, Spring Hero cabbage, Calebrese pacifica, chard bright lights and perpetual spinach, the delivery dates are end of September will that not be a bit late to get them in the ground, I'm in Yorkshire...

I think it will be OK. Possibly a bit late but then they will have all winter to grow which they will do slowly if the temperature reaches about 7-10C. -
Helen. It`s never too late to do anything, go get your plug plants and pop them in, see what happens..then let us know your results, maybe pay a visit to your local garden centre`s, they may have a few bits and bobs for sale. I`ve just sown some sweetcorn, marrow and courgettes, bit late I know, they will either live or die, if you don`t do it you`ll never know.

I sowed some late too - a couple of weeks ago. Gave them a head start by germinating them in wet tissue (took 3 days), potting them up and placing on a warm, sunny windowsill, and they're now on the shed roof where they get full sun throughout the day. I planted them in black buckets and mulched with black plastic to increase soil warmth. They're now nearly three feet high. Will begin fertilising with a high-nitrogen to boost growth.
