Hi all we planted onion and shallot sets today but we thought they looked a bit like worms with the top sticking out will the birds pull them out, have we done it wrong, should we have got them rooted first we are new to this planting malarkey

In a word, Yes. But they won't come to any harm, just pop them back in again, I don't know if it's because the onions eventually develop roots or if it's just that the birds get fed up, but either way they stop doing it after a week or two.
