Wild Garlic?

    Wild Garlic?

    I haven't got a photo but a description might help.

    At one of my schools, we have a patch of wild growing garlic scented plants - they look like 3 Cornered Leek/Garlic - however the flowers point up not hang down and there is a collection of 8-10 bulbils at the place where the flowers all connect.

    Any ideas what they are?

    C'mon Zaz, you know we like piccies! What colour are the flowers? Is it some sort of decorative allium gone wild?

      I've never heard of three cornered leeks but google images don't look anything like the Ramsons that I'm familiar with. I guess there are many different types.

          Wild garlic around here looks the same as that in the pic Donna posted ^^^^^,broad leaves & white pointed leaf flowers never noticed any bulbils,but can go have a closer look this afternoon if it helps

            They look exactly like that - with the flowers facing up not down, and a cluster of bulbils where all the flowers join. Thin leaves, and the bulb under the ground is about half the size of a shop bought garlic.

            We are propagating them from the bulbils but I really would like to know what they are exactly. Not 3 cornered leek - but perhaps a variation...

              Could they have cross pollinated with summat?
              Hot off the press - I've just dug up a small clump so that you can see what the 3 cornered leeks look like today - dying back and very soggy!!

              The bulbs are larger than I expected!

                Allium paradoxum, few-flowered garlic/leek? I was so annoyed when the plants on my walk to work that I thought were going to be bluebells turned out to be this tatty-looking allium that I did some research.
                March is the new winter.

                      Yeah - I have those in my garden. These are not 'wild garlic'....hence the question mark.

                        The leek type flowers are quite different to Ramson flowers aren't they...more like bluebell flowers.

                              I'm sure you know about this website Zaz - since its your local one but it lists 11 types of allium found in Derbyshire. You seem to have to look elsewhere for images though. Don't know whether any of these look like your plant or possible parents thereof!
