  • Why Are Some Tomatoes Coming Out Big and Others Small?

My Dad gave me two tomato plants in spring, I think they are Moneymaker. I put one in to my raised bed and one in to a pot. From the one in the pot, I have grown a few more tomato plants from the sideshoots.

The original plant in the pot has produced ordinary salad tomato-sized fruits. But the one in the bed only has very small, cherry sized tomatoes on, as do some of the other plants I have grown from side-shoots. But also some of these plants have ordinary salad sized tomatoes on too.

Its very odd. I am trying to rack my brains to think if there is anything different about these plants and the way I have grown them (feeding slightly less or something), or whether its just one of those things?

Possibly the difference between the quality of the soil in the bed & that of soil/compost in the pot

Ah maybe there is something in that explanation actually.... I used shop-bought compost and I know at one point I bought a different brand. It is definitely a different brand in the raised bed to the original tomato plant in the pot. Perhaps thats it then. Thank you.

There may be others with different/better ideas, but I have grown in various mediums this year & productivity has varied across them all.Strangely what I expected to be best (Focus "grow cube") was actually worst
