Can you eat these immature, or do they need to mature? I've a few, about 6 inches that are starting to rot from the flower end, due to the bleeding slugs eating the flowers off.

No - you can eat them like courgettes OR leave them to mature.
They are one of the best!

I got it from the HSL, FF - I'll take a picture of the fruit next time I'm at the plot. I've hand pollinated some, I'm hoping to save the seeds from, so if all goes well I'll have some to dish out

I have some seeds left - but my first two sowings of all squashes were doomed. Have some Trombe d'Albengo ?sp coming on that will have to suffice until next year.Comment

Gotta say, really impressed. Have about 20 large beasts growing on the two plants I have, I picked 5/6 or so today. not sure if they need curing or what not, but we'll try them (will be a bit difficult as we don't have a kitchen - I've ripped it all out!)
Will report back on what they're like fried on a camping stove, and done in a slow cooker
FF - the ones I hand pollinated haven't set, rotted, or were eaten
Zaz has suggested giving it a go again, so will do - there's some immature female flowers just starting to grow, so I'll try and get them!

No, mine failed, but I have some Trombe D'Albenga (or summat) that look as though they'll do something. Flowers on extravagantly long immature and curly fruit. I really hope they come to something.Comment
