  • where to buy seed potatoes to harvest at Christmas?

    Hello,
I am new here and I live in Lossiemouth Morayshire have had a good couple of years growing vegetable but am still a novice at it! My early potatoes have been another success this year but I have decided to grow potatoes so that I can harvest them to go with our Christmas dinner! However I cannot find some seed potatoes to sow them if anyone knows where I can get them I would be most grateful please! I have tried to get them online from various places but they are all out of stock, can anyone point me in the right direction please?
    Thanks

Hello Tel & welcome to the vine, if you have any early spuds left over you could always plant some of those in buckets/containers under cover.

It's late to be planting second cropping potatoes now, that's why everywhere is sold out.

Most get planted at the end of July, beginning of August.

Is there some allotments near you,if you took a couple of packets of seeds, you could probably barter for a few spuds?

I agree with Thelma, it's too late now.

where to buy potatoes to harvest at christmas?

Hello, okay it looks like I will have to put this one down to experience for this year! I will have to get myself sorted ready for planting them for christmas 2016!
Can anyone tell me what I CAN sow in September as I have only grown in the early part of the year for summer/autumn harvest of runner beans, broad beans, peas, potatoes, carrots, leeks, onions and beetroot oh! and (tomatoes in the greenhouse) so would appreciate any advice on what i can sow for the next harvest and when!
Thanks for all your advice though

There's a sowing chart here, not much to sow in September, though

I've just sown some winter salad stuffs and if you look in the garden centres you might find some decent spring cabbage plants. Also still plenty of time for green manures to avoid brown deserts.

You can sow corn salad (lamb's lettuce) now for winter salads.
