    Where to buy nut trees?

    I am all inspired now, watching the Great British Food Revival!

    Would love to buy a couple of dwarf cobnuts and a walnute tree, but ideally local nurseries. Can anyone recommend somewhere in either Surrey or around the A23 (I work in Brighton)?

    Me too - plenty online selling but trees. Are you thinking of a reason I ask is that if you plant two or more of the same variety your yield is much improved. Walnuts grow very large - word of warning!

        I was going to grow two cobnut for yield reasons. Been wanted to do it for years but only now have the space. Walnut more of a hazy idea, but we have 1 acre here, so if I put it in with the chickens or turkeys, it'll provide them with shade in the summer and bombs in the winter(!!).

          They (cob nuts) grow wild on Hosey Common,but you would need permission from Westerham parish council to dig up the naturally set saplings & also visit when in fruit to be able to identify them.

            It sounds good, and a super reason to do it.
            I have found Blackmoor very good but they are not in Surrey - just over the border at the top of Hampshire in Liss....have a look at the web site and if decide to order from them, you PM me, I have a discount voucher you use.

              Walnut trees do get large and they are costly when they need a trim!

                Never eaten a crop yet, squirrels get there first. Oh well , I guess they need to eat too.

                  Yes, I heard that the squirrels take many of them. We have lots of fruit trees and oak surrounding us, though, so hopefully they won't be TOO badly targeted. I will just harvest enough to make some cakes from (and maybe dry a few). Looking at that pic of the walnut tree, I might knock that one on the head!!

                  I used to ride on Hosey Common (actually the ponies were kept up Hosey Common Road!). Might have to pay it a visit again! Will check out Blackmoor, thanks.

                    Blackmoor are a main UK grower of fruit and nut trees. I have just planted two of their fruit trees and whilst not cheap they look good quality trees.

                          Why not try throwing a load of nuts, in shell, in an area where you want them to grow - my neighbour has a hazel/cobnut tree leaning over my garden and the saplings, from the resultant dropped nuts, are a real pain to get rid of, they must send a root two foot down before you see any green
