  • When to sow....

    Morning all!

As I stood outside pricking out seedlings in the snow (yes...) I started to second guess when I should be sowing things. The weather is so so changeable at the moment and I'm starting to overthink it a bit... I have several types of courgette and squash (may have gone a tad bit overboard on the number of varieties when seed ordering this year..!!) and a load of sunflowers in the "April" segment of my seed box. Worth starting them off do you think (in the house obviously) or hold off a bit longer?

For some reason I'm feeling terribly "behind" this year although there are plenty of things in the blowaway and on a table on our patio so there is stuff coming along!
    Thanks!
If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Snow! Unbelievable. I'm finding everything slow this year. I would definitely hold off on the courgettes etc. Once they get going they get big very quickly and then you've nowhere to put them. I've sunflowers slowly germinating in an unheated greenhouse. They are made of sterner stuff!

Yes..the windowsills have been struggling this year! Might start the sunflowers off in the blowaway then! The snow was short-lived and didn't lie but still...it's supposed to be April!!!

I feel soooo behind - I still have things to sow in my march pile - but the windowsills are all full and no chance of getting anything outside at the moment!

Don't worry - they'll all get there in the end!

I have courgettes adn cucumbers on my list for this week, but I will be waiting to the end of the week at the earliest as I need to make some space by moving carrots and peas to the growhouse, and its too cold to shock them like that just now. I'm sure the courgettes will catch up - they grow very fast.

My sunflowers were sown 3 weeks ago and they're on a bedroom window sill and I've not sown my courgettes and cucumber yet, I'll probably wait until the 1st week of May.
I've sown them early in the past and they've been like triffids and really difficult to carry between the GH and kitchen twice a day.

I just planted my International Kidney on Monday 18th I'm doing my beans and peas this week. So far I don't feel like I'm behind....probably because I ignored housework and other jobs last week and spent every spare moment up on the allotment digging beds and getting things prepared I'm enjoying the calm whilst it lasts....
