  • When to plant out?

According to websites my last frosts should be in late April so I have passed this. Obviously we have had great weather this last month which may lull me into a false sense of security but this week it is looking like a minimum of 19 degrees in the day and 9 / 10 degrees at night.

All of my growing is in pots and I have tons of fleece and two blowaways so have the ability to offer even planted out plants some more protection at times if needed.

    Tomatoes (Gardeners Delight) -

They have been going out in the day for a good 3 weeks now.

I am planning on planting them in their final position today as they really need to get out of the pots they are in. This will be into morrisons flower buckets. I thought about growbags but we are moving house in August and I thought pots would be much easier to move.

Can I get them outside day and night now? If so would it be a good idea to put them in the blowaway at nightnso they still get a bit of extra protection?

    French Beans and Courgettes -

Both were only sown 2 weeks ago in 3 inch pots. French beans are up to 5 inches high, courgettes are about 3-4 inches high and have 2 true leaves. These have been out during the day all week and in at night. Can I plant out my french beans now?

Courgettes - do I need to gradually pot on into bigger and bigger pots such as I did with tomatoes before they go into a flower bucket each? And again, when can I get them outside or into a blowaway day and night?

Chillies and Peppers - I think these need to be kept indoors for a long time yet? I do put them out in the day when we have been having these lovely hot sunny days though so they are also nice and tough.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

If your last frost dates are past, you should be fairly ok with planting out.

However, it can still get cold at night, if not freezing, so it is best to be prepared with some fleece to pop over young plants if needed.

Chillis and peppers need a good constant heat so they won't be able to go out overnight for quite a while.
