  • When to harvest Garlic

    Hi Guys,
I planted these late - January - Can anyone tell me when they will be ready to harvest?

Not yet, they should be ready about the end of June or July. A bit later if you loosen the soil round the base you will see how big the bulb is. The looses soil also allows the bulb to swell.

I usually wait until the top growth goes yellow and then starts to disappear, which is in June or July. You can then dig up the bulb which will be ready. You can of course harvest it at any stage as 'green garlic' and if you have plenty and want some for the kitchen now rather than later, then just dig up what you need. The 'green' stuff of course will not store in the same way as the ripened bulb.

They look healthy TIA, but they're not ready yet. I plant on the shortest day and harvest on the longest. As you planted in January, I would wait until the foliage starts dying down which will probably be the end of July/beginning of August.
