The leaves of one outdoor tomato plant started wilting at the weekend. I was unsure of the cause so I cut it down today and this was what the stem looked like where I cut it just above ground

I am not sure what they should look like so was unsure whether the brown mark in the centre was indicative of a particular problem. I have tried google to identify the cause and so far the most likely seems to be Verticullium Wilt although there wasn't really much yellowing of leaves just wilting. It seemed to follow the warm, wet, windy weather at the weekend so could it be blight?
What I really want to know is whether the remaining fruit are going to be edible and worth ripening indoors. Also a couple of other plants look like they're starting to wilt - should I dig them up quick?
