  • What's eating my sweetcorn?

Hi all, my sweetcorn are barely into adolescence and already they're under attack. As this is my first full year of growing I'm not sure what's doing the damage or how to stop it.

Well I know what's doing the damage, caterpillars, but I'm not sure what type. They're small and green and seem to contain an in built zip line which they hang from if you disturb them.

Here is what they are doing to my plants.

What are they, how can I get rid of them, how can I protect other crops from the same?

    Thanks, Chris

I believe its called "Ballooning" when they hang from a thread. It enables them to swing onto another leaf.
There's a good guide to British caterpillars online - here is the page that deals with vegetable eating caterpillars Common caterpillar vegetable pests » Wildlife Insight

You're highly likely to have snails munching away as well, esp. baby ones which hide away in teeny tiny places
