I don't think that's been done by an insect/infestation, my guess would be a mouse... bb.

Snail or slug...take ya pick, try putting some salt around the base of the pot it's in or some copper tape round the pot, I find it helps. Look under the pot to see if you have a slug hiding there...they get everywhere.

Good suggestions... is there a slime trail? Could it have eaten its way inside and still be there?!

But how did whatever get there... slugs with parachutes? high jumping snails? It's when things like that happen to me that I think "Tesco is so much easier...!"

there are rats in the polytunnel leaving marks like that on the peppers/tomatoes/beetroot.

Hmmm. I'm not sure a mouse could reach the pepper - it would have to climb up the plant and hang upside down to nibble just there.

I've not seen any rats and can't help thinking I would notice more signs. A rat nibbling that pepper would probably have knocked the plant over?

So, probably as you say, slug or snail. I can't see any slime trail, but if it's a very small critter, there wouldn't be much of a trail, I guess.

I'll have a thorough, thorough hunt tonight, and hopefully find and evict the culprit.
