    Whats eating my cabbage & Cauliflower?

    Hi Guys,
    Can anyone identify what is eating my cabbage & Cauliflower?

    I dont thinks it's snails or slugs as there are no slime trails and I've been putting pellets down.

    2 possibilities spring immediately to mind.....
    Caterpillars
    Pigeons

    Looks like there's netting but the holes are big enough for flutterbyes. Have you checked on the leaves (I'm guessing this early the caterpillars will be small).

    Someone else will be along shortly to extend the list of critters.....

      I was going to say caterpillars. The gren ones sit along the lead vein and can be very hard to spot. As Chippy said will also be very small at this time of the year.

        Also check underneath the leaves.

          Yep! Caterpillars for me too! As mentioned by "Chippy n Wendy"

          If it were the "Flying Rats" they'd have stripped the leaf both sides back to it's main central vein!

                Next question is what to do about the caterpillars?

                I was initially against sprays though now due to time - I don't have enough of it - I am leaning - Heavily - Towards spraying to get rid of them.

                    Sorry NoT.............? Too late in the week to copy that!

                    Don't use spray's myself so can't really advise!

                    But one thing I would suggest! Use finer netting!

                    Mark! Your pictures are the "little ones" only allowed to be posted by the "App" so hard to see, but would defoe say pigeon! "Flying Rat" damage! Have you netted them?

                      I don't spray as wouldn't want to eat stuff that has been sprayed (one of the reasons I grow my own is to avoid such nasties) but if it is caterpillars then I think your best bet is to squish any you see (including the yellow eggs) then net finely to avoid anymore while keeping an eye out for any you have missed. Obviously if it is pigeons you can't spray anyway.

                          Hi Deano - no I didn't hadn't realised I should have. Lesson learnt . Ahh so that's why my pics seem small because I'm uploading directly from my iPhone. How should I put pics up?
