  • What is this??

    Hi
    I found this growing in amongst my veg and have no idea what it is. The root looks a bit like a carrot and was about 2 inches long when I pulled it out for photo but as you can see (I hope) the leaves are definitely not carrot like. There are no other ones, just this one!!

    If you break the leaves what do they smell most like?

        The leaves smell of nothing really and nor does the root. The only turnips I've sown are purple top milan but the leaves are completely different to this.

          Swede? If you cut the root it will definitely smell of swede if that's what it is.

              I cut it open but defo no swede smell. Doesn't seem to smell of anything in particular. Looks a bit parsnipy inside, off white.

                      certainly looks like a beet type leaf...try transplanting it and wait and see!

                        It's sugar beet-plant grown for sugar.You can eat it,it's harmless but tasteless.
