  • What is wrong with my beans?

    Hello!

These are my Cosse Violet beans, all 12 plants are going brown/black from the base up.

They keep growing though, so I'm leaving them in for now. Is it a throw out and start again job?

I would think that they are probably ok - just the purple pigment coming through into the leaves.

If my memory is right, it happens when they are under stress. Mine often do it and look pale while climbing. Keep em watered and fed... they should soon get better.

Poor beans! Give them a dose of Epsom salts and water with something like comfrey tea or compost tea. They will soon perk up,then feed them with a seaweed based fertilizer.you will have happy beans in no time!
