  • What variety of Carrot have you grown this year

I have grown chantenay's and not that impressed with the taste, bit bland.

What variety have you grown and how's the taste

Long Lisse de Meaux from the Real Seed Co. I found the taste gorgeous but it's my first time of growing carrots (or should I say the first time they've come out edible) so I haven't got much to compare them with!

I've grown Nantes Frubund Fastcrop (T&M) for years and they are great. They make medium sized roots which have great flavour and can be planted in autumn for an early crop as well as in the spring. Having said that, this year's early crop was poor, probably because of the very cold spring.

I'm also trying Eskimo F1 (T&M) (another frost hardy variety) but I haven't yet harvested any so I can't comment on the taste.

        St Valerie
        Jeannette
        Norfolk Giant

Also not long sown Nantes Frubund and Some Royal Chantenay red core.

Only eaten Jeanette so far, but impressed. Roots are quite slender but tasty. First time I managed to get carrots not riddled with pests. Don't think my Norfolks will be giant though

Oh yes I also grew Nantes early and they have been lovely - very sweet and plump with a deep colour and a blunt rounded end.

            Early Nantes
            Chantenay Red Cored
            Paris Market

All tasted good, especially the Paris Market - just a shame they are so little!

Early Scarlet Horn, Scania, Bolero F1 and Healthmaster F1.

However, the ESH and Healthmaster F1 are in a raised bed and have grown really well. Both are nice decent sized roots, but the Healthmaster in particular the flavour is incredible. The aftertaste kick was incredible, and I've grown my own carrots for a few years, but these were the best ever. They were a freebie I think but the packet is labelled T&M.

Scania and Bolero are in new ground and although I dug the ground well I perhaps think it was still not dug enough and they are generally small and not the best crop. Taste okay though.

I'm currently eating early nantes and have not that long ago planted autumn nantes to over winter. Both are pleasant enough.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Atomic Red, Cosmic Purple, Rainbow, Solar Yellow, all from Midland Seed Co,. all very tasty. Also 'D'Eysines' and 'Giant Red' from Real Seed Co., and a couple of HSL varieties that I can't just remember. After a few years of growing carrots, I find that the unusual non-F1s tend to have the best flavour, although some are a bit more wonky looking I much prefer to have a mixture of colours than the just the plain orange ones, although they don't taste much different you get different anthocyanins with different colours of veg

purple haze for me too, good size, great flavour and no carrot fly despite not being netted, only downside is the muddy brown colour when cooked.outstanding raw though and look amazing when grated and mixed in with a salad
