  • What To Sow Month By Month

I know there are plenty of planting guides/calendars knocking about the vine but thought it may be beneficial for any newbies to have a running monthly guide. Please feel free to add any I may forget. So, I'll kick it off with Jan although it's nearly over

    Good idea, BM!

The list will vary a bit, depending on how far north/south people are, and the weather conditions - so consider this as 'can sow, in the right circs', not 'must sow - what do you mean the plot is frozen and covered in snow - get those broad beans and peas in the ground!'

Good Point Hazel, I'll not add it to my post as it will make your reply nonsensical..............

If it helps you sleep easier NVG, then cover them......................or just put a good mulch over them.

I was going to put Chillis in Feb but I suppose if you have the warmth & light it may be worth a go.

Should certain varieties of plants be mentioned here too - or just an indication of early cropping or hardy etc? I appreciate it adds more complication rather than just a broad brush, but perhaps it would be helpful to cover the main varieties where possible?

I'm sure the packets will confirm when to sow. As stated, it's only a guide & not exhaustive.

Oh heck is it January already - I'm running (in my dreams) a little behind (and no not someones bum).
I will pot some tomorrow. I must promise the dog as its the only way I will do it.
p.s can borage etc be done now?

I've sown tomatoes (Shirley) for growing in the house - 1 germinated so far, and peppers, but they haven't germinated yet. Also microgreens (Radish Sangria as well as mustard) and American Land Cress which hasn't yet germinated. Pea Half Pint and Lettuce Lollo Rossa have both germinated and can be grown indoors.

                            Great thread

I'm not planning on sowing anything until late February early March that being radishes, early peas and lettuces

Isn't it too early yet ?
