  • What to plant now!!!

I'm hoping to get the keys to my new allotment soon - so after some hard labour I am eager to 'get a plantin'.

What can I plant now or soon? I have a few ideas but I want to hear everyone elses before I decide.

    Thank you
    Tori

congrats on your new plots, if youre quick you can get garlic, onion sets, broad beans planted. Also this is a good time of year to put in fruit trees and bushes if you intend growing fruits

Cripes.........you just reminded me I forgot to put my broad beans in this weekend.......bugger!

Ah well, it looks like I'll be planting them in the dark during the week after work! I can see the headlines now:-

STOP PRESS "There have been unconfirmed reports of a man wandering around an allotment plot with a tilly lamp in one hand and stooping down every so often pushing things into the soil.
Could this be some sort of fertility rite we wonder?"

Tori - if your lottie soil is good condition and free draining/not too wet then get onions/garlic/leeks in (plant not sow!) but if it is wet/heavy I would wait until Spring now and concentrate on getting the soil improved.

Any work done on improving soil now will pay huge rewards and get you well ahead for Spring

Yes - sadly soil is clay and wet - it won't stop raining! I think I am better off pottering in my greenhouse until after xmas.

Ha Ha! Snadger- just make sure you're planting them on your own lottie!

I didn't get mine in until late on Sunday when it was begining to get dark. As the ground was very wet I used boards between the rows to walk on. I suffer with vertigo and had a bit of a dizzy weekend so wonder what I looked like trying to balance on the boards
