What new fruit or veg are you most looking forward to growing next year?

    What new fruit or veg are you most looking forward to growing next year?

    Reading through the "what will you do differently next season" thread, I noted lots that people are planning to grow next year and this got me wondering:

    What have fellow grapes read or seen on these forums this year that has most stood out and made them think " I must grow that next year"?

    For me, there are two things which I'm really looking forward to trying.

    1. A turnip from T&M called oasis that can apparently be eaten raw like an apple, is very sweet and juicy and tastes like fresh melon. It sounds too good to be true so I am prepared to be disappointed, although I think it will grow quickly and I will have plenty of time to put something else in its place if it doesn't fulfill its promise.

    2. Inspired by a post on the VVS, Veggiechicken's totally awesome looking photograph of two dragon egg cucumbers. I had never heard of these but five seconds later knew that I had to grow them. It could just be that VC is an extraordinarily talented photographer but if I can grow something resembling those in the photo, I will be happy.

    Although I look forward to reading what has inspired fellow grapes, I hope it doesn't encourage me to buy even more seeds well, not too many

    The whole fruit thing for me started with a nudge from the forums and quickly escalated. Some of the more unusual that I have picked up on various threads are chilean guava, mulberry, lingonberry, jostaberry and having another bash at cranberry and blueberry.....just need them to fruit.

    VC's dragon eggs look great.

    Sparrows black futsu squash.

    Saricos carosello, did try this year but didn't succeed, but will be trying again.

    Waltham butternut recommended by several grapeas and Marchogaeths ponco butternut (last chance for butternuts)

    Scarlets cosse violette beans (backed by other grapes)

    Blue lake beans often seem to get mentioned by various grapes.

    I am sure there are loads more but can't think at the moment

      I'm also trying the turnip oasis - I also can't believe a turnip can taste like melon.
      Pea Terrain - said to be mildew resistant.
      Tomatoes Ferline and Mountain Magic, both said to be blight resistant.

        Still planning next year, but it might include:

        - Yugoslavian finger fruit
        - Celtuce
        - Pea aubergines, an ingredient in authentic Thai curries
        - Caper bush (love capers).

          I love growing beans. I don't know why I just do. So via the VSP I have got :

          - Mrs Connells Black Runner. Saved by nellie-m
          - Nectar Queen. A runner bean Saved by Nicos
          - Martock. A broad bean. Saved by Nellie-m

          Have also got some peas again VSP. Little boy loves peas. He has them every cooked meal if he can.

          - Feltham first. Saved by Norfolkgrey
          - Douce Provience . Saved by Bohobumble
          - Kelvedon Wonder. Saved by Bohobumble.

          So hoping to reduce the amount of peas I have to buy this coming year

          A couple of years ago I did well on parsnips have failed drastically since but going to give them ago again this coming year. I love roast parsnips.
          Last year I did Ok with leeks as well. Started them off in seed cells and then planted them out. So they are on the list again

            I have still never successfully grown a parsnip, so those are on my list aswell NVG.

            I have a thing for squashes and chillies, and tomatoes are swiftly joining them too. So on the list for next year are:
            - Sibleys, Chirimen, Blue Ballet, Hidemi squashes
            - Orange Wonder, Vampire. Pasilli Bajio chillies
            - As many of the tomatoes from the seed circle as I can squash in to the greenhouse (or 2 greenhouses if I get myself sorted in time!)

              I stuck with the basics this year (as it was my first year) - so looking forward to lots of new things next year!! Cucamelon, raspberries, purple carrots and black tomatoes... I could go on!

                I had a few things fail this year because of the extreme heat.
                My cucumbers came through really well gave me beautiful cucumbers and the just died.
                Also really looking forward to leeks i had a great harvest last year and had 6 pots going really well, but had to go away to 2 weeks and the person watering didn't realise what they were so didn't bother watering so no leeks for me this year, unless i find somewhere selling plugs.
                All my beans failed (again heat problem) the main seasons to sow end of August well i got some of them in end of october they are going quite well but hope i do not loose them to the cold. I will try again in the spring as i love some fresh beans. I got excited and i think i have about 10 different bush varieties to try.
                I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

                  A boring one, but big fat juicy garlic I can oven bake and spread on bread!

                  This year was my first year doing garlic and it was pathetic. But I just prepared a new bed and purchased some HUGE bulbs last weekend. Fingers crossed.

                    I'm hoping to save seeds from the Dragon's Eggs. If I can, I'll put them in the VSP for you to try

                      Come the end of December or beginning of January, when I'm eligible to partake, I might have some dragon egg cucumber seeds to put in the VSP too.

                      I think December 22nd is my 3 month anniversary but I think there's something happening around then that might affect the post

                        The VSP shuts down for a couple of weeks over Christmad/New year anyway, so save them for January, please!!

                          I'm looking forward to growing everything.
                          But a couple of new things black pineapple tomatoes, holly mole chilli, and a very big pumpkin that I can't remember the name of at the moment.

                              I have quite a few different varieties of things,as i do most years,but the one am longing to try is the kelsae onion,just to see if i can for a challenge,
                              sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these
