    What to grow no that won't get covered by weeds

    Hi Guys,

    So I have a few beds left and need to grow something....However, I dont want to plant stuff that in a few weeks time leaves me pulling it all out as ive had to leave everything to grow (weeds and all) and then thinking that I really need to weed that and being left with an empty bed again. This happened with my beetroot and parsnip patch. I mean if the weeds grow as the seeds grow you have to leave it a while and then you stuffed. It doesnt help that my neighbours wreck of a plot blows weed seeds onto mine and I have a mega battle on my hands. So i'm kinda saying salads our of the question as I wouldnt know whats what when picking(after all it's my first year growing) I want something that is big and stands out like onions or pumpkin, I have both growing already though. So......what should I/Could I sow/plant over the next few months??????

    Weeds are a fact of life. I find it helps to sow in modules and then transplant into the beds so you know what is where. If you are sowing direct then sow in rows so you know where your seeds should be.

      Why not use some weed control cloth to cover the ground until you are ready to plant. Failing that, some plastic bin liners or something.

      Rhubarb will cover the ground pretty quickly.

        Spring cabbage can be sown now and is easily identifiable among the weeds!
        If you get loads of annual weeds its a sign your soil is in good heart i.e if weeds grow well, veg will also grow well!

          They will simply tear in the wind & UV light and end up in a 100 pieces blowing round the plot.
          Use something designed for weed control.


          As the others have said: sow into modules then plant out. You need to weed, but not every tiny weeny little weed: let them grow a bit and pluck them out before they go to seed.
