What Does "All Year Round" Mean???

    What Does "All Year Round" Mean???

    I sowed some "All Year Round" Caulis in autumn expecting them to overwinter & form curds in spring. I had to throw away about 12 today as they had formed curds & had rotted, presumably from the weather............so what does all year round exactly mean?...............

    I grow 'all year round lettuce' in my GH the packet info just says to grow in a cold frame/cloche during colder months.
    Location....East Midlands.

      According to RealSeeds you can sow it Feb to May for Summer & Autumn harvests and again in October under cover so that it overwinters to make heads in Spring
      Vegetable Seeds : Cauliflower
      Maybe you sowed yours a bit too early in Autumn?

          I imagined biggish seedlings that are planted out in spring - but I'm making this up as I haven't a clue really!

            Well had you been around in the mid to late 1800's it (All Year Round) would mean you were reading a weekly journal by Charles Dickens

                That would good old Jack.............................. Frost that is. First the curds would go brown and then rot.

                Instructions I have seen read 'sow in Oct in a cold frame, plant out in March, cut June.'

                    Maybe I should just start to learn to read.........I took it literally that they could be sown/grown all year round........They say you learn something new everyday.

                      Count yourself lucky that you had curds - I've never managed to grow a cauli - in fact I've given up trying now. You can still eat the leaves as greens

                        The curds were the size of my head so you can imagine how gutted I was...........never mind, there's always next year.............

                          The size of your head They'd be big enough to feed the 5000.
                          You have a way with caulis as you had good ones in the summer too, I think?

                              Yes I did, once I get them going I'm fine. It's the getting going I find tricky.........with all Brassicas.
