  • What can I plant in August?

I can't find a thread for this, but that might be my ineptitude so please feel free to direct me elsewhere :-)

I've got spaces in my plot, and that's owing to stuff being taken out or failing early owing to pests (mainly slugs). I green manured it over the winter and early spring and its well manured generally, so although that's an option, I'd also like to consider putting in a crop. I have nothing in the way of plug plants and I don't think we have anything available locally.

Any recommendations for stuff that will do well from seed if I put it in now?

I am continually sowing salad leaves, lettuces, spinach etc so I'm after something else really as we have more lettuces than we can eat! I also recently planted runner beans, as an experiment really as I've never grown them that late.

We are talking fairly small areas, but I hate to see them go to waste!

I'm in Cardiff so reasonable temperature, but on the wet side. Soil is mainly a good loam, well manured.

My mind is absolutely blank on this one. I don't usually have empty space in August!

I have space in beds that will go into autumn (brassica, leeks) as well as one patch of cleared ground and some odd corners.
