  • Weird tomato!

My seed company has sent me a packet of Travel Tomato seeds free - I've rushed them into the propagator. Have any of you grown these? They're the strangest toms I've ever seen

Never heard of them! I'd like to see some photos of your crop though.

Real seeds sell them; I put my bag into the seed swap parcel so there are some floating around somewhere.

Look like a gimmick to me!

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

It is a real tomato; and it really grows like that.

The taste is nothing to write home about though - and for the trouble it is these days to grow toms; not really worth the bother.

And a right faff to prepare for eating.....

                      quote...

"Bright red tomatoes taste—well, rather sour, strong and acid. The perfect tomato for those who love raw lemons, but who cares? "

...should go well with smoked salmon and prawns then??

Is this the 'Reisetomate' Pocketbook Vine Tomato? "Clusters of tiny plum tomatoes fused together..."

If so, they floated towards me!! I thought there were only 2 seeds left, but a few more were hiding. Don't need them all and was going to put the rest back in the next seed parcel.

So if you want to PM me your address GN I'll send them on to you instead.

                              They're an old heirloom variety.

There's an interesting article in th April issue if The Garden about tomatoes and how much the flavour is determined by how you grow them. So it'll be interesting to see whose taste better later on

Anyway, I like growing toms so am willing to give any variety a fair go.

As for preparing, surely you can just slice them like any other even though they're very gnarly!
