    weather worry...

    im not liking all this rain. especially as its sunny in the morn then showers the rest of the day. sun + rain = blight! ive been spraying my outdoor toms with dithane as a precaution. ive lost all my toms the last 2 years to blight and im determined to get a crop this year.

    how often should it be sprayed on tom plants? what precautions are other taking to protect their toms?

    Does it not tell you on the packet how often to spray?

    sun+rain doesn't equal blight, it's much more complicated than that. Check on the blightwatch site or the various threads on here.

      I don't think there's much else you can do other than what you're doing or just grow them under cover. Our outdoor allotment ones got it last year and it spread to the ones under cover. Don't bother with outdoor ones now, just got a couple at home on the patio which are falling over and look rubbish. The rest are under cover and look much healthier. Weather up here is pap.

        My greenhouse tomatoes have got blight but are fighting it all the way. I keep cutting off bit that I see with blight on and removing the odd tomato which shows signs. I am picking toms every day and have toms coming out my ears at the moment.

          ive only got room for outdoor ones, ive got 3 plants of Ferline (which is meant to be blight resistant) we will see how resistant tho lol.

            Grew Ferline one year and they were more resistant than some of the others but eventually sucommed to the plague but we are in a very bad blight area. This year so far (touches every bit of wood around) there has been no sign of blight but then no rain either!!!!!!!

              well i should have touched wood too, as yeterday i discovered the first signs of blight on one of my tigerella toms. i removed infected bits and sprayed all my tom plants.

                          Yep I'm expecting my 4 plants to get it, shame they were doing so well without me. Mind you if they don't get blight then they'll probably get end rot, as I've hardly watered them and now they've had none stop water.

                              its annoying because all the fruit are a good size and are just crying out for sun to ripen them up! shame its a typical britsh summer - wet!
