  • Watering veggies with dirty well water?

    Hi all

We have a well and a pump in our new place and I've been using it to water our toms, courgettes and cucumbers.

The water stinks of rotten eggs and I'm wondering if it's wise to continue using it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have already been using the water, are the plants showing any ill effects?

I was just gonna suggest the same Nic, as if Sulphur is present it may need dealing with as it can be potentially hazardous.

Have a taste and see what you think.

Dont taste it until you have it tested then you can make a decision.

The smell will be caused by hydrogen sulphide, (HS2). I would suggest you stop using the water and consult a water treatment company. HS2 can also be flamable.

Does that mean I could grow some ready smoked peppers? Wouldn't that be great..

                  Probably not Buffs

                  Exposure to HS2

Symptoms of acute exposure include nausea, headaches, delirium, disturbed equilibrium, tremors, convulsions, and skin and eye irritation. Inhalation of high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can produce extremely rapid unconsciousness and death.

Fortunately the OP is not in the well and dilution ventilation will avoid excessive exposure.....but it needs checking by a professional

Scoot, would you like to taste it first?
