I have been given a large plastic planter. It is 1metre long 50cm wide and 45cm high. Apart from how to fill it I really don't know what to grow in it to make best use of the space. All suggestions welcome.

You could either use it like a raised bed for general veggies or something that big would probably take fruit trees/bushes. -
Fill it with a bit of old compost, sand and topsoil ( maybe from mole hills if you have any around your area ?)
Plant carrots and parsnips
You have to loose sight of the shore sometimes to cross new oceans
I would be a perfectionist, but I dont have the time

If it was mine i'd have it by the back of the house and grow lettuces, strawberries and either cucmbers or climbing beans....all my fav's together outside the backdoor would be great!Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. I've thought of using it for carrots and salad stuff perhaps even herbs but I think some thing of that depth (it is actually 48cm deep) could be put to better use. How about the suggested fruit trees? Would say a patio type apple and pear share the box? I have to bear in mind that when full of soil/compost it will be heavy.
