Morning broadway, are you thinking of growing them in tubs or the ground. The conifers roots will have taken any nutrients around.

The only problem I can foresee is Golden Nugget Squash has a compact habit so you could struggle to train it along, but you should be OK with the Acorn I think it'll look great I'd say go for it... don't forget the pickys

you may well get brown/ yellow spots on your leilandi due to the squash leaves blocking out the sun.

What GingeNinge said - these squashes have a compact habit - they don't trail much and the fruit grow near the main stam of the plant

Hedge is next doors and I'd rather it cut down anyway so a bit of discoloring won't bother me

So worse case scenario is I don't need to train them and they will support themselves?

Hi Danny,

No need to support, or training. Just give them 3sq foot. Dig the ground well, if you can get loads of compost or manure (aged not fresh) in. Mulching helps as they like lots of watering and this will keep in the moisture. Happy growing!

Hi Stupot,

I need to put them in containers as the ground is crap in the picture. I intend to use a mixture on soil/compost plus those gel like thingy's that absorb the water.

As others have said, these are bush type squashes, like courgettes.
Make sure the hedge doesn't shade them from the sun too much, and keep them well watered
