Veg and shrubs.... What do you recon?

    Veg and shrubs.... What do you recon?

    I think I mentioned last year about my delightful neighbour using round up on her side of the fence where on the other side I grow my veg...

    I dunno how long she had been using it there and just caught her by chance, I was dumb founded as she knows I grow my stuff on that side and that it can get into my food. All I got was that it was done on a still day so there was non wafted onto my side. She obviously didnt look to see that it remains in the soil! I dunno why she even bothered she doesnt garden or even planted anything there...


    So I was thinking if I put shrubs along the fence using about 2 foot of soil width from the fence then plant my veg, do you think the shrubs would absorb most of what she puts down whether it be remnants or not?

    Sunflowers are said to take toxins out of the soil,I don't knoŵ if there are toxins,did any of your plants die or look affected? I think roundup would kill a plant if it had the chance?

      Well some just didnt pruduce but didnt die, I read about it remaining in the soil and builing up in the body etc etc. I will plant some sunflower plants along there too. I will look into other plants that does the same job. Thanks

        Is it a solid fence or just post and rails? If it is solid you probably won't have a problem, although if you are worried you could sink some sort of dividing line like a board into the soil along the line of the fence. If it is a gappy fence like post and rails, you might like to put some sort of barrier along it to stop the weedkiller drifting onto your side.

            Most herbicides including glyphosate the active ingredient in roundup are supposed to degrade in the soil within 72 hours.

            I would think that wind drift would be your main worry but unless you are growing resistant GM crops you would soon know as your plants would die.

            Plants not producing as they should could be caused by many factors. Roundup spray would shrivel the plants usually within 24 hours and they would just die.
