Setting out some new veg beds and wondered if there was any preference on position.

Unless there are buildings or trees to shade the plot, I don't find it makes any difference at all.

Depends what I'm planting...always tallest things at the back so they don't create shadow on other plants.
As I tend to block plant most things in a domino pattern ,then it doesn't make that much difference to me."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Because I like to be different, I would do neither, so won't vote.
If your open land is SSW, I would have parallel beds facing the open land. I think that would be from NNW to SSE.
Then, I'd plant my tallest crops/fruit bushes in the bed furthest away from the open land and the low growers closest to the open land.Comment

A bit confused. So if looking south I will make the beds in horizontal so e to w so they don't get much shade from other plant at the front. But this is in open land. But in allotment site better be s to n so you don't get problem with other plot holder getting shade from them Or you make shade to them.Comment
