veg beds?

    veg beds?

    im pretty new(ish) to veg growing. I'm trying to plan my beds for the coming spring. After reading books on what plant are compatible with each other I'm getting a little confused!

    How does this layout sound?

    Bed 1:

    Maincrop spuds

    Bed2:

    Onions, carrrots, beetroot and Swede

    Bed3:

    runner and french beans
    broad beans
    corn

    bed 4: salad spuds(charlotte)

    I have a few smaller beds which I'm going to stick leeks, pumpkins and courgettes in.

    My main concern is can i grow the swede with the onions, carotts and beet?

    Also, peopled views on the Sarpo axona or mira potato?-is it worth growing?

    You might want to reconsider the pumpkins in a small bed, as they trail off and cover a lot of area.

    Maybe put them in the salad potato bed and then grow those in bags?

      Where are you? If you put your location into your profile it shows up on all your posts

      Carrots like a free-draining (almost sandy) stoneless soil. Swedes like a good rich clay soil. I can grow carrots but not swede. I've never managed to grow swede

        If it were me, I would keep all onions and leeks together in the same bed and maincrop spuds and salad spuds together (if you have enough space).
        I think this would be better as will be easier for crop rotation in case blight or onion rot strikes, then only one bed is affected.
        Swede, I think, is a brassica (I may be wrong) so would be grown with cabbage, broccoli etc if you are going to grow them - I have never managed to grow swede for some reason.
