  • Used compost for container potatos.

This year I'm going to try potatos in containers. I've got some large pots full of multi purpose compost which I grew some lettuce in last year. Is it ok to "re-use" the compost? I'm guessing I'd have to add something to feed the spuds. I was going to use chicken pellets added into the old compost or some well rotted horse manure that I've gotten hold of. Will this be ok??

It should be fine, as long as the compost was only growing lettuce. If it had anything to do with tomatoes, then you shouldn't use it. Thoroughly mix it with some of your manure to feed the spuds because all the nutrition will be gone.

ditto Sarz's response - and then when you have grown said spuds and harvested them, use the spent compost on your garden
