  • Upturned half grow bag for peppers/chillies?

This year I am going to plant my greenhouse tomatoes in to grow bags cut in half and stood on end, to make deep sacks. Hopefully this will help with their deep roots and prevent drying out. As I always tend to grow my chillies/peppers along side, just wondered if this is also worth doing with them ..... or should I stick to conventional growbag growing, or not bother with growbags at all?

My suggestion for the Toms would be to get the biggest bags you can and plant them in those. They hate wet and dry conditions. Chillis I've found, are fine in smaller bags.

I agree with Richard, the chilli's will be fine in smaller pots than toms, in fact sometimes mine have done worse when planted in larger pots.

Yeah the more room they have the more they seem to concentrate on root growth when they feel comfy with there root system in pots they really seem to want to produce fruit and lots of it!

        Just my experiences though

Must be the amount of water retained Matt, I don't think chilli's like the wet and cold on their roots. On another issue I keep a bottle of water in the airing cupboard and use that on my chillis, as I've found they're no keen on cold water....

I do that too, it's quicker than putting the compost into pots
