Has anyone else got one of these ? . My sister got me one for my birthday and so far I have planted 4 tomato plants in there. Each one has died. They are hard to get in without damaging them and then the slightest puff of wind has them spinning round till the stem breaks. If anyone else has tried these I would love to know how you got on and if it's just me .

Think it's a con or maybe more suited to calmer climates. I think if Tomatoes grew better upside doon they'd have done it centuries ago.

I bought one this year and have four plants growing really well in it. I think I put garden pearl?in , and they are covered in flowers and have started setting fruit. Its on bracket against a wall. I have to remember to water more often but looks like it's going to be successful. Will keep you posted.Gardening forever- housework wheneverComment

Do either of yours look like a tube with hole at bottom to put plant in and hole at top for watering ? . Lettucegrow , how did you put 4 plants in ? .

My neighbour has one and I gave her one of the plants I grew from seed to put in it. The plant seems to be doing very well, it is certainly growing faster than the ones growing upright in my garden planted at the same time. I am planning to try a few in upside down buckets next year. I have three which I haven't bothered with this year since last year wasn't very successful. The plants still want to grow upwards and although I did get a few toms from them, they were such a pain (literally -as some days my hands are very painful) to fill it didn't seem worth the hassle.
Divvy, On a couple I wrapped a plastic bag around the greenery and carefully fed it through the hole and on the other I tried to feed it through the bottom. None of it worked very well, the teeth grab your fingers! and if the rootball is too big you damage it pushing it in upwards.
I wouldn't go so far as to say they are a con. I checked it all out on the internet before I used them and the sites I looked at had very bushy, productive HANGING DOWNWARDS, plants.
I have seen it written (on here I think) that somebody tied a weight to the plant to keep the growing bit hanging down. I may have imagined that of course!Comment

Thats a good idea , it would help it hang straight , that is , if it dosn't pull it out of container. A little weight maybe . My Son said someone he knows got a good crop from this last year , thats the only reason I'm still trying. In the end I emptied the container and fed the plant through the bottom and filled it while it was lying on it's side. This time the plant looks to be settling in better. This is the last chance . I'm not going to waste any more plants trying if it dosn't work this time.

Iv seem these on the net and from what iv seen they don't look very productive the plants always want to grow upwards anyway that's nature .the only good one iv seen was a guy from America were he had taken large bucket cut a small hole in the bottom and planted one upside dome and with the oPen end planted one on the top to that way he got two in one but he live in California I think and they certainly don't get the kind of wind and rain we get in summer .I would get seriously miffed everytime I went out and found another plant I'd lovingly grown from seed or cutting only for some stupid bucket to ruin it ..
