  • Unexpected Growth

    Hi,

I got some strange growth popping up in my veg beds, see pics. Any advice on identification and prevention/control. I'm wondering if the nearby hedge is spreading underground ?Its a mixed native, mainly blackthorn and hawthorn.

    Thanks in advance,
    MrB

Looks like hedge/tree seedling or suckers.. Have you dug or pulled any up to see if they're on their own roots?

Tis Blackthorn! The baddy stuf grows of the roots. Pull off the shoots and when the bed is empty dig down and cut off all the roots you can find. BUT IT WILL BE BACK

        /\ This.

Persistance is your watch word. Your lovely fertile, airy, beds are encouraging growth to anything there, so make sure it's only what you plant. ;-)

You have my sympathies - I have a blackthorn hedge running down one side of my plot - I won't put permanent planting on that side because of the suckers that come up all the time.

          Keep pulling them out.

Thanks all, at least I now know my enemy :-)

            It'll keep me busy, unfortunately.

            Best get digging.
